a 7hr 30 ce soir we are going to go on a journey; a trip to the most romantic city in the world. we are going to paris. and we are going to love it.
‘Paris Je T’aime’ will be tonight’s monday night movie. and it will be all kinds of wonderful. 20 of the world’s leading directors take 5 minutes [and a cast of the shiniest stars] to tell their own tale of this incredible city. the coen brothers get into trouble on the infamous metro, gus van sant falls in love in le marais and alexander payne walks down the leafy rue pavees of the 14th arrondissement, wondering what kind of people live there.
as i used to live in this leafy 14th street i had to give you a little looksy and an amuse bouche for a film that in my opinion is one of the most charming patchworks on celluloid. delicieux. a ce soir mes amis x
i sometimes wonder what it would be like to hang out in someone else’s head for a day. you know, walk through their mind’s imaginings. see what the colours look like through someone else’s eyes. if i got to pick someone’s head, right now i would choose taika waititi - the writer and director of ‘boy’.
the green leafy brackets at the beginning of the trailer mean that this film is respected and rewarded. and rightly so. it is beautiful. and glorious. and heartbreaking. and refreshing… and it has two of the most epic sparkler scenes ever. i can’t actually think of any other sparkler scenes in any movies. but if there were some, then these would beat them hands down.
ok, enough confabulation, just watch the trailer. then come to the bean bag circus cloud tomorrow night and watch the full movie. or if you can’t make it to the big top tomorrow night, go and buy the dvd and watch from afar. oh, but if you can make it to the circus. do. there will be salty buttered popcorn [yes i am obsessed] AND a surprise short film. monday night movies. love.
sadly last night we couldn’t show the surprise short film. wires got crossed and cables got lost and graham took the frickin usb thingamajig back to australia with him. anyway, here is the short that would have been shown. it was a finalist at this year’s tropfest and is probably the funniest concept for a film i have come across.
watch it and tell me who your favourite bird is? my favourite has to be andy the pink flamingo - ‘i’m not gay and i’m a pink. bloody. flamingo.’ his australian accent delivers it perfectly. the wanton white dove has gotta be a close second though.
